Blades for cutting porcelain tiles

The best choice for cutting porcelain is a diamond blade. They are made of steel with a diamond coating, making them very tough, durable and ideal for precise cutting. Blades for cutting porcelain tiles can also be used for other materials, such as concrete, granite or wallboard.

However, before you start using one, you should know which type is best for your situation. There are two main types to choose from. The first type is the segmented blade, which has teeth that are fixed in segments and grooved to give greater stability in cutting porcelain tiles, which also reduces the temperature generated when using diamond blades.

The second type is the continuous diamond blade. They are not segmented, but have a continuous layer of diamond covering the edge, making them ideal for cutting hard materials such as porcelain or tiles. An advantage is that they are also very difficult to accidentally damage the surface of the material being cut.

Cutting porcelain tiles

Porcelain tiles are very hard, so special blades are needed to cut them. As you already know, these are diamond blades. They work well for cutting and grinding porcelain tiles. However, remember that when grinding you should use a blade that is at least twice as thick as when cutting, usually up to 3 mm. Grinding blades should therefore be at least 6 mm thick, otherwise they may be damaged.

In addition to the blade, you will also need suitable equipment such as a circular saw, tile cutter or angle grinder. However, you should bear in mind that cutting porcelain with an angle grinder can be quite tricky. As it is a hand-held device, it should be used very precisely to avoid damaging the tiles. A slight jerk can be enough to damage the edges of the cutting material.

Different methods of cutting porcelain tiles

In addition to the division of porcelain cutting blades mentioned earlier, there is another classification. Some blades are only suitable for dry use, while others are suitable for wet cutting. It is good to know these methods, especially if you want to know which porcelain cutting blade to choose.

Wet cutting

So, let's start with the wet cutting method. This method requires the blade to be cooled by water, so you don't have to worry about the high temperatures generated when the blade rubs against the material being cut. With wet cutting, therefore, you can work continuously without having to take breaks to cool the equipment. Water cooling also means that wet blades will last longer.
