Where ceramic tiles have been ground, cracks will appear in the glaze. The edges of ceramic tiles must be masked with masking tape.

The number of layers of tape you use depends on you and your comfort level. You should use masking tape to trace your marker lines after you have already drawn them.

You can use a few more layers if you like, but don't go too crazy.

Use a grinder to cover the cut edges of the tiles to avoid chipping off the ceramic glaze. Masking tape can be used in one, two or even three layers. To do this, simply lay down some tape, draw some lines with a marker and trace those lines through the tape. Once you get to three layers, it's too much.

Protective equipment

Inadequate safety equipment when using power equipment can lead to serious injury or death. When using a diamond blade, it creates dust and noise. You will need to use ear plugs and a dust mask with two straps.

Safety glasses and work gloves are also recommended, as tile dust and debris can fly up during the grinding process. If possible, do this outside in a well-ventilated area.

Always follow safety precautions when using power equipment. A normal dust mask will do, but you should also wear headphones, work gloves and safety glasses. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and some casual trousers to protect yourself from porcelain shards. When cutting tiles you must hold the grinder with both hands and clamp down on the tile pieces. The side handle of the grinder should be used. Make sure that the guard deflects the projectile away from you.

Place both hands on the grinder and clamp the tiles for a clean cut. We recommend using a grinder with a side handle.

Cutting

When cutting at an angle, an angle grinder is more suitable than a wet tile saw. Hold the blade of the grinder perpendicular to the tile and along the mark, cutting directly into the surface of the tile. Holding the blade horizontally, flush with the tile surface, will cut a clean, rounded drainage edge. To avoid cutting into the tiles, go slowly around as you grind. Straight cuts can be achieved by cutting the tiles vertically according to the mark.

Cutting tiles with an angle grinder can be dangerous and difficult. To avoid improper handling or strong backlash, unless you already know what you are doing, you should probably call in a professional.

Those who have never used an angle grinder before will benefit from the experience and the patience and tools needed to do the job. I need to know about protective equipment. If you want to avoid being exposed to loud noise and debris when cutting, you should use ear plugs, a dust mask, goggles, gloves and protective clothing.
