1. Prepare the core drill and job site
Before actually operating a core drill, it is important to prepare the job site and make sure the drill rig is ready for use. You will want to:
Check the alignment and possible constraints of moving parts, mounting, and any other conditions that may affect the operation of the core drill. Do not use the core drill if it shows any signs of damage.
Read and fully understand the operator's manual.
Check the flow and pressure output of the power supply against the requirements of the core drill.
Check for live wires near the job site or embedded in the material being drilled.
If drilling through a wall, check the sides for obstructions.
Protect all persons and materials beneath the work area before drilling through the floor. The core is usually dropped from the drill bit when drilling is complete.
Make sure all personnel use appropriate safety equipment.
Clear work area of all unauthorized persons. Barricade or secure the area to prevent personal injury.
2. Anchor core drill
Core drills can often be bolted or ceiling jacked to the floor or bolted to the wall.
Measure the distance from the center of the foundation bolt groove to the center of the drill shaft.
From the center mark of the hole in the floor to be drilled to where the anchor bolt holes will be drilled.
Drill holes and set anchor bolts. Then place the core drill over the anchor hole and hand tighten the bolt.
Secure the core drill by tightening the anchor bolts.
